Glory, not merely life,
is God’s final word
redeeming us from death
from the pit of our stain
guiding us all our days
to the end of the age
With us always
beating within our hearts
leading us if we will follow

Calling us to heaven
when our work here is through

In the Resurrection
the second part of grace
the first being the sacrifice
wiping clean the slate
The second is the rising
lifting us from death
rising with our Savior

Not to be silent
to be comfortable in place
to sit on our laurels
to be happy in place
We are to bear witness
to spread the message of love

rising to heaven above
Rising so the Spirit could descend
to change us from within
transforming us with love

For All to Hear
The story continues
by voices raised up
shouting from the rooftops
for all to hear of God’s love
Pouring out a blessing
on each beating heart
redeeming us with his body,
with his blood poured out for us
with us in good times
in times of sorrow too
guiding if we will let him
seeing us through
going on before us
preparing a place for us
ready when our time is done

Baptized by the Holy Spirit
Christ’s promise
of what would soon come
unable to be fulfilled
while he walked the earth
Only by ascending
on that blessed day
only in reflection
could we with joy say
He rose from the earth
into the arms of the Lord
redeemed from his feet of clay
to walk once more with God
Preparing a place for us
an advocate for us
intervening on our behalf
preparing a way for us
The Ascension only joyous
in reflection, in the past
what it must have been for them
thinking they were lost
the Master ascended
they were still here on earth
praying in constant worship
until his promise was fulfilled
Baptized by the Holy Spirit
on the day of Pentecost
the rest of Christ’s promise
redeeming all from the lost
sending us as witnesses
to the ends of the earth
offering the whole world redemption
by the price paid at the cross
Christ’s promise
that we would be baptized
baptized not with water
but by the Holy Spirit
washed in the Creator’s love
the living waters descending
drenching us with power
sending us forth as witnesses
at the Maker’s hour

Different than the first disciples
who shared the walk in this life
walking with our Savior
Jesus in the flesh

Baptized by the Holy Spirit – part 2
The Ascension only joyous
in reflection, in the past
what it must have been for them
thinking they were lost
the Master ascended
they were still here on earth
praying in constant worship
until his promise was fulfilled
Baptized by the Holy Spirit
on the day of Pentecost
the rest of Christ’s promise
redeeming all from the lost
sending us as witnesses
to the ends of the earth
offering the whole world redemption
by the price paid at the cross

When the Spirit Comes
A hint of the fire
of the power of that day
when the Spirit comes to earth
a charge to keep,
the blessed Great Commission,
to tell people far and wide
of the Savior’s compassion
of the saving grace
of our merciful God

bringing us into His loving arms

Ask boldly, for God will answer
granting us the desires of our hearts
speak clearly, asking directly
knocking on the door
knowing He will let us in
into His goodness
His mercy and kindness
the kingdom’s door
He will open wide
seeking ever His holy presence
in the silence of unending prayer
God will answer
offering us richly
from the endless
depths of His love
granting to us
all we need
trusting in Him

Spending Time with Our Savior
A lesson for us in the story
busy Martha running about
noble motives, offering hospitality
but missing the larger point
Mary blessed, by her attention
Spending time at the feet of Christ
drinking in his holy message
unfocused on the things of this earth
How often do we become distracted
clinging to our busy lives
failing to stop,
to spend precious minutes
Sitting at the feet of God;
open the word
linger with Christ

noble motives, offering hospitality
but missing the larger point
Mary blessed, by her attention
Spending time at the feet of Christ
drinking in his holy message
unfocused on the things of this earth
How often do we become distracted
clinging to our busy lives
failing to stop,
to spend precious minutes
Sitting at the feet of God;
open the word
linger with Christ
heed His calling for our lives
The better path
to sit in stillness

showering us with love

seeing my earlier poem
posted on the gas station wall

Because We Have Faith
Stopping to check in
to talk with my neighbor
my brother, suffering
to make his ends meet
The economy, the pressures
the difficult circumstances
yet we both were affirming
because we have faith
The struggles, the trials
the grist of this life
still there for believers
but with a strength deep inside
If we turn to Jesus
on that strong foundation
our hope in our Savior
and our peace in the storms
