feeling its feet, its presence

feeling its feet, its presence

an early-morning walk in the woods
gaining a friend, a passenger,
feeling its feet, its presence,
about two hours later

sitting at my desk, the computer,
looking down on my hand
seeing the green motion
the inchworm working its way
down my hand, my fingers,
craning, hovering in midair

taking my new friend outside
setting it down in the grasses
other adventures, hills to climb,
no longer on my person

all prophecy, all scripture

ascended to heaven

Be still, chill,

trust in God only;

Quiet the noise

our demand

for control.

 

Peace in our spirit,

trust God fully,

fighting for us

even if, even when,

truly far too many,
a lifetime of unhappiness
far from our Father;
needing to be still
to trust only in God
to quiet the noise,
a peace in our spirit.

an outsider in our churches - v2

lamenting our failures, our disobedience
forgetting who and whose we are
beloved children of God
seeing so many lost, cast out
each an outsider in our churches

feeling estranged, separated,
not feeling loved, welcomed
by us, by God, judged,
found wanting, broken
sitting alone in our pews

judged for their sin, found unworthy
though we too are broken, sinners,
redeemed by Christ's blood;
we too are unworthy
but for God's grace, God's mercy,
Christ's loving sacrifice.
