transformed by fire
the rushing wind of heaven
fire alighting, landing on them
changing them forever
to stand, to testify
witnesses forever
to share the Savior’s story
hope for salvation
for all people on earth

hearing the message unfolding
as Joel prophesied, taught us

those who heard Jesus
the Sanhedrin, the Pharisees
the common people
Those who were gathered
in Jerusalem that day
hearing the message
the witness to Christ
even in their own tongues
some believed but
not all believed
the important thing the gift
to share with all nations
all people on the earth
in their native language
hearing the message of Christ
the good news of salvation

Not a gentle breeze

The flames of Pentecost
rushing from heaven
Not a gentle breeze
wafting through the windows
a storm of heaven
filling the gathering space
the whole house shaking
the church emboldened
by the Spirit’s coming

Their lives forever changed
when the Spirit fell upon them
descending from heaven
life came to them, to us
new, alive, with them forever
their call to bear witness
to the risen Christ, alive
our hope for salvation
for life after this life

They saw

they saw, were amazed
witnesses to God’s power
God manifest before them
in fingers of fire
showering down from heaven
alighting on each one
given them voice
to share God’s Word
life to the world

Ribbons of fire

An explosion of sound
of a heavenly wind
filling the house
where they were gathered
fire descending on them
ribbons of fire falling
a rush of the wind
Spirit filling them completely
sent into the world

A waterfall of fire

falling like a rushing wind
falling down on them

tongues of the Spirit
God’s love falling bodily
landing richly on us
