the birth of our people

Not fleeing from the Pharaoh
roasting the lamb whole
blood on the doorframes
as in the story of old

the birth of our people
sitting around the table
a covenant with God
in the sharing of the meal

the bread of the Passover
the wine of the Seder
the centuries old ritual
becoming the body of God

The blood of the lamb
the sacrifice for our saving
our sins transferred to the lamb
climbing the rugged cross

in remembrance down through the ages
generation after generation
the bread and the cup
shared to remember his sacrifice
