Are We Like John

Are we like John
standing in this wilderness
proclaiming the coming
of the kingdom of God

Are we like John
foreswearing the world
going into the wilderness
to spread the holy word

Are we like John
hesitant, in the water
holding our savior to us
as he sinks in the water

Are we like John
in the rising of Christ
hearing the voice of God
seeing the descending of the dove
