Our calls to serve aren’t as dramatic as the prophets – v3

What are we to say, do we feel less urgency
less worthy, less motivated,
not called the same way, as they were
do we wonder if God waits on us
crying in heaven when we wait, ignore his calling to us
yearning for our answer, to return, to serve, to go
do we question, do we doubt, do we need it written down
to believe, to trust, to act, to go,
are they, our calls from God,
our calls to serve aren’t as dramatic as the prophets
or are they, can we even understand, do we know
how can we know, for they are from God,
are they meaningful, for his holy purpose
what of the Great Commission, to make disciples
to pour out the water, the fire, living within them
our candle to theirs, flames of life, setting them afire,
to go out into the world, as Jonah did
even if reluctantly, too slowly, yet going, going,
to save the world from destruction
many more days than three days wide
the darkness of these times, the world, the vast ocean, the deep
the darkness needing the light, the very light we carry
commanded by our Savior, our Creator
to go into that world, hurting, yearning
questioning, needing God’s love, forgiveness
life evermore, forever with our Lord
Hearing Him calling, a whisper, a rumble, the Spirit within
hoping we don’t need the jarring moment
like Jonah, a near-death calling, dying,
from the depth of the pit, the cave
rising from the dead, to life
finally answering God’s call
obeying his command, his mission
to go into the world, to save the nations
one candle, one heart at a time, precious,
by carrying his light, Christ’s light
to serve as we are called,
making the darkness bright
