laws that oppress the poor

the perfect law of God
his hope for humankind
sent on the tablets to Moses
in the life of Christ
God’s Word for us
His hope eternal
a way for us to live
a hope how we would love

yet we have corrupted
ignored God’s Word
seeking our neighbor harm
we have left our best
we have sent Christ to the cross
laws now created, out of whole cloth
laws that oppress the poor
subjugate our neighbors
our boot on their throat
unbalanced scales, usury fees,
them on their knees
