We
don’t have the full picture
the
sanitized words of scripture
nothing
of the harsh words spoken
of
accusation and rumor
But
we know the world, the same today
the
way people talk, what they say
we
can imagine the mixture of joy
and
the words spoken behind their backs
on
the claim of divine blessing
a
scandalous pregnancy hidden
what
must the neighbors have said
