Burn Down Christmas – v2

Burn down this Christmas
tear down the trees
the glitter, the focus
on the stuff we don’t need

Rip up the tax code
the whole thing broken
none of this can be fixed
we must start over

A wholesale redraft
a looking within
none of this worthy
none of this holy

All we settle for
a thin version of our joy
the babe in the manger
thrown to the curb

Exalting the fat-man
by the name of Santa
the same letters spelling
the devil, Satan

Burn down this Christmas
because it is nothing holy
like the golden calf
made, worshiped,
by Man in the desert
