We
see only the words of the angels
the
responses of Mary, of Joseph
the
way that Zechariah did not believe
we
see the joy of Elizabeth
The
miracle of the incarnation
of
the coming of the Christ child
their
days of Advent, of waiting
were
made of messier stuff
The
pregnancy of a virgin
blessed
by the hand of God
what
must really have been said
in
the marketplace, in the streets
The
young betrothed a cuckold,
or
so must the neighbors have said
The
miracle of the incarnation
the
birth of our Savior
yes,
the star guided the Magi
the
shepherds heard the heavenly chorus
but
this was far messier than scripture
in
real-life in real-time
