We have lost Christmas

As I read the ads, as I watch the commercials
the lights blinding, the sales unending
Santa everywhere, but where is the Christ-child
We have lost Christmas on the altar of excess
Why did this happen, were we so timid
did we let others steal Christ’s day
Santa everywhere, but where is the Christ-child
No one lines up to pose by the stable
the manger bed where he lay
for pictures with Mary, with Joseph
Lost busy shopping, for things we don’t need
