Israel’s Messiah and the Savior of the World

Christ was the fulfillment
of the ancient promise
Israel’s Messiah
as Isaiah had foretold

the words he read
opening the scrolls
liberty for the captives
all to be set free

but the words Christ omitted
the language of his people
the focus on Israel
on the chosen people

by the words omitted
expanding our understanding
the words of prophecy
to cover all the nations

The world’s Savior
not just Israel’s Messiah
God’s presence with us
our Lord, Emmanuel

Christ came to save us
all the peoples, the nations
all those in persecution
all those bound in fear
