Too harsh a measure

I claim to hold the plumb line
but give no room for error;
too harsh a measure,
my way alone

Always ready for battle
eager to pick a fight
wanting to beat my opponent
not listening to her heart

Ready to share her anguish
speaking the painful truth
but raising her voice in anger
leading to my rebuke

How I want another way
but the ruts have become deep
so like I was then
so like me now

Too harsh a measure
my way alone
when she is her own person
I just wish in softer tones
