Cupped in my hand – v2

Alive, moving in my hands
arms stretching, turning;
already warmed, by the sun above
a starfish, pulled from the rocks
beyond the water’s edge,
shortly after low tide ebb

Setting my footing
on the sand, the barnacles,
smooth sand-polished shale
watching for my audience
casting the starfish
out into the sea

Another starfish, found by the girls
another rescue to complete
returned to the sea
weight of the starfish
the reminder of our choices
to make a difference
to be an actor in the world
