from the dust

starting in dust
in sackcloth, in ashes
remembering the pit
the mud we live in
holding onto will
our own values
not following the cross
not serving our Master
from the dust we rise
watering the ashes
the soil within us
right for the seed
the story of Lent
of Christ’s journey
feeding us, growing
from darkness to light
the pit of the despair
the heights of Golgotha
the fresh-hewn tomb
the hope for the ages
