my lungs filled with the smoke

sorrow each season
beginning in ashes
the palms of Sunday burned
my lungs filled with the smoke
the sweetness of Sunday
a memory, broken
the spell of palms
of the joy, hosannas
broken, burst
the dust of the earth
the ashes all that remains
of our cries to the King
