Christ wept for Lazarus
a friend of his
who died at home
away from him
Jesus wept
for this brother
this disciple, this friend
the brother of Mary and Martha.
Christ wept for Mary, for Martha
knowing Lazarus had died
because he had waited
to come to them
Christ cried for Lazarus
the death of his friend
He wept for himself
for his friend
knowing God’s plan
but mourning the death
of their brother, his friend
Christ wept for himself
