His Head bowed at the basin – v2

He stood at the basin
where he has long stood
He looked down at the water
still clear, after his washing,
the stain not removed
innocent blood spilled
carried by him yet

I can hear his murmur
his regret every moment
his endless prayer of confession
his head bowed at the basin
trying to wash his hands
to ease his pain, to still,
to quiet the storms in his mind

My guilt remains
all too present,
an open wound, forever,
unhealed, open,
within my flesh, my spirit
what did I do, how could I be so evil,
when I crucified Christ

No matter the washing
the stain still there
my hands remaining
covered with his blood
the stain of conviction
my guilt remains, my sin,
in Christ going to the cross
