not a mask, a costume – v2

something to put on
to cover our bodies
not a mask, not a costume
a living fabric, the flesh of Christ

we are to put on the armor
the living body of Christ
we are to be authentic
true in our walk

nothing of darkness, of the world
we must let the real Jesus
shining through us, burning
we are to share, to shine Jesus

leaving our costumes
our masks on the shelf
only through us will others see Jesus
alive now, in the world

we must bear witness,
sharing Jesus, not a mask
the blessed truth
of his coming at last
