Proclaiming this text now – v7

Our age is not unlike theirs was
when Christ walked the earth,
greed and poverty hand in hand;
We pause to think about the words
His actions challenging those in power

When He cleansed the Temple
so like our own times
when the tables were overturned;
We should be proclaiming that text
now, in our world, in our nation

We should be fighting Injustice, imbalance
a shaming of our power
of the concentration of wealth;
Now is our time to speak
in the tipping of this hour

More in the world hurting
by the selfishness of our choices
our choice to consume, to accumulate;
We sit idly by, in comfort, in wealth
instead of rising with Christ’s anger

We should join with those struggling,
crying out, “No More”,
a biblical mandate, to justice;
We should open the doors to the temple
to bring forth peace within the Christ

Reverend Gary Richards
speaking of the Methodist Movement as a
Resistance Movement,
something that made some people very uncomfortable,
including one long-time Methodist who probably was thinking of John Wesley’s words, “Make all you can, save all you can, give all you can.”
