Three Years

Three Years
But like yesterday
Remembering the feelings
The steps, actions taken
As the nation awoke, realized
Vulnerabilities (resolve to follow)
Towers fell and we wept
Another innocence lost
In our time, this time
Personal and angry

  1. “The Battle of Lies”

    I am a soldier
    I have fought many battles
    Waged a whole war
    Against myself

I have fought hunger, and theft, and racism
    I am still hungry
After the food I have eaten
    I am still poor
    After my accumulation of wealth
    I am still an outsider
    After breaking the walls down

    What am I fighting?

    Lay the weapons down
    Let your guard down
    And sink into the ground
    There is nothing to fight

"Three Years" is intense. Unfortunately, we fight the world and it's anger, but we forget to deal with our own rage.
