They were quite a pair
clash of cultures
within these proud Quebecois
each speaking a language
I don’t share
but a dissonant image,
a muddled pair
Leather, spike collar,
shock of flame-red hair
in spikes held by gel
animated arguments
speaking with passion!
about something oh so important
with his grandfather, or so he seemed
Tweed coat, wool vest
accordion hanging heavy off his chest
slumped on the bench
ancient fedora at his feet
overturned for change,
his next meal
in the bright August haze
long ago
A clear image,
nails on the chalkboard
of my memory
