Her Salty Cheeks

She was crying, after bumping her head,
her nose on the wooden headboard
crying loudly within the space below the top bunk
echoing her cries off wall and board,
inconsolable for a few moments, until the startle
the pain subsides. I leaned to her, trying to calm
her wails but with little effect. I bent to her level
kissed her salty cheeks, using Daddy love, to kiss
the hurt away. Not this time. Time would be needed
instead, to dissipate the shock, bad bed, bad
for hurting Miss Nequa. Our warrior princess
She settled only, after Momma came up to
check on her princess, to kiss the boo boo too
