She spoke joyfully
face aglow
standing in the kitchen
of our church,
her hands busy,
preparing a meal,
for a meeting of our leaders
She spoke joyfully
of the comfort in the revelation,
again, of the parallels throughout
the living scriptures
the story, this time,
of Abraham and Isaac
echoed in Christ’s life
Going up onto the mountain
always to the mountains
to pray, to sacrifice,
to meet with God
A son offered in sacrifice
in faith, in love
an only son
the son on which a legacy
is to be based
Assurance God will provide
will provide the lamb
to be sacrificed,
a worthy sacrifice
Faith, living faith,
echoing in scripture
again and again
in comforting parallels
