A Frightened King

A frightened king
tried stealth and then wrath
to stop the coming
the birthing of the Messiah,
the savior, the coming of the Lord;
to thwart the will of God
But no such weak king,
no pawn of Rome
could stop the babe
in the manger
the humble born
savior
Sometimes God comes
in roaring fire;
sometimes in hushed whispers
and one special epiphany
in an infant born humbly
to rule eternity
for his kingdom is not of this world
Let Herod have it.
