Snow between the rows

Snow, a melting dusting
layered, in the December sun
mud, ruts, the stubble
snow between the rows, the stalks
the dirt changing, darkening
becoming wet, mud
straw stalks, cut by the reaping
long grey, gone to market
snow, for the moment frozen
between the fallow rows
