The Dawning

The sky dawned
as if painted by Maxwell Parrish
bright rims of the acrylic, daubed clouds,
placed on the azure sky
the hint of the sunrise, still present
the light from below the buildings,
behind the puffed-cotton clouds
no warmth yet, just the dawning
before school and the start of the day
