My back, my muscles
loosening, becoming limber
applying the liniment of work
the rhythmic motion, the shovel
biting in the powdery snow
scraping against the cement walk,
the blacktop driveway
scoop after scoop
my back moving, with my shoulders,
my knees, turned away from the wind
facing away, to the work itself
one by one clearing the path, the job getting done
applying, a little at a time
the liniment of work
