Mocked

In the courts of the Romans
beaten and scourged
mocked and taunted
our Lord and our savior
on the way to the cross

A ring of thorns
for the jewels of his crown
a reed, a staff
for a royal scepter
soiled, purple robes
to mock the king

Spittle and thrashing
bowing in jest, in derision
wounded and bleeding
in the dungeon deep
ripped clothes for the road to death
