The Shadow of Death

Under the shadow of death
the watchful eye of fate
he walked to the place of the skull, Golgotha
Innocent, pure, an unblemished life,
hanging on a cross, three criminals
ridiculed, mocked, but forgiving all
for the ignorance of man
promising a gift of grace
a place in paradise
for one who would ask
even under the shadow of death
