Black Raspberry Blooms

In the lee of the schoolyard

in the shadows of early dawn
lavender purple lilacs, the unopened blooms
still looking just like
rich black raspberry ice cream
with the rising of the light,
softening, brightening colors
from that darkness to pale lilac
