Within His Heart

His piety, his certainty of righteousness
a mask, covering his pain, his pride
sensing himself at the center
more than others,
lifting himself
up onto a pedestal

Forgetting the lowliness
the baseness of man
the height, the divinity of God
calling the creator to task
to defend and to justify himself
all in the name of his innocence

But his sin now before him
in the answer of the creator
calling him out to answer the call
Questions he could not begin
to reason or to explain
Things known only
to the sovereign God
