Suffering for Us

That he suffered as he did for us
more than we can fathom
God choosing to accept
the cloak, the weight,
our sins upon himself
drinking from the cup
the bitter judgment conferred
the lamb aware, yet taking on our sorrows
our sin, our punishment, our death
all of these his alone
that we may live
