Afraid of their Rejection

Was Christ aware
before his reading
that the community
his hometown
would deny his call

Did he know
that they would not believe him
when he claimed the words of Isaiah
as his calling from God

Was he afraid of their rejection
before he went in
lifting the scriptures
and saying they were fulfilled

How much harder
for those who have come after
down through the ages
all of us with feet of clay
