More than we experience

The temptations of Christ
in the desert alone
more than we experience in life
so hungry, alone

He was confronted
by the devil for forty days
offered temptations
in every single way

No food to strengthen him
the word of God alone
the bulwark, the rock
to stave off the devil’s call

Remaining faithful
in all the trials of man
staying true to God
his calling from above

Going out into the world
to begin his ministry of love
tested by the devil
steeled by rejection of his hometown
