As the Sanctuary Darkened

The feeling of dread
foreboding all around
the disciples with us
our hearts beating as one

Hushed in our pews
as each candle was extinguished
the light dying as we remembered
our savior died on the cross

Needing so much
the bright light of Sunday
the darkness like a heavy cloak
making it hard to breathe
