One Candle Remaining

After the others extinguished
the seven to match his words
his time on the cross
coming fast to a close

One candle remaining
the one lit all day
through our prayers and our silence
when we have cried so

The candle of Christ
blown out in silence
the light of the world cast out
buried in a tomb, in shadows
giving over to night
