The Slumber of Winter

The world contracting
pulling in on itself
slowing down and sleeping
like the animals hibernating
under a blanket of white

So in the springtime
as if the world is awakening
throwing off the covers
called from its slumber
stepping out into the light

Green and other bright colors
replacing the brown, the gray,
the now tarnished, melting, white
A whole new palette
shimmering in delight
