Complicit

Like the townspeople
complicit in his stoning
in this day and age
we need to wear the hair shirt
ashes and sackcloth

We stand convicted
complicit in injustices
meted out on the weak, the children
silent when we should speak

Turning our backs
on the least of these
all of them children like us
brothers and sisters,
our neighbors
all children of God
