Before Immanuel

The prophet foretelling
the birth to the virgin
Immanuel, God with us,
from the holy seed
buried in the ground
as God had promised

Before Immanuel
the people to be ravaged
other peoples becoming God’s agents
his holy plans to achieve;
the land barren
in this season
dormant until his coming;
oh let him come!
