Purple Blue Asters

The pure color, shining back at me
set against the yellow center
purple blue asters
the urgent, erect petals
swaying in the fall breeze
a fan moving together
clustered in the wild field
the goldenrod, the bramble,
the brown, fading reeds
the grasses of autumn
forgotten by the scythe
near the ancient wall
covered in lichen
rusted barbed wire
when the field was useful
holding in the animals
of another age
