Took Upon Himself

The awesome responsibility
to trust in his dream
the angel calling to him
to believe in her faithfulness
to believe the ancient prophecy
come alive in Mary
his bride, heavy with child

He took this upon himself
believing the angel’s story
taking her to himself
and raising the Son of Glory
offering his own life
to care for her, for the child,
to be the step-father of God
