There in the foreign land
mired in the mud
his convicting moment
aware of his sin
Knowing what he had to say
to his father, his lord
for the hurt he caused
in leaving from his home
A journey draped
in sorry and fear
redeemed when his father came
as he drew near
running to him
to forgive him on the road.

"There is a season between repentance and rebirth, between the old life and the new. There is a kind of mud season in which we have become newly honest about our faults, wounds and struggles. We are exposed and vulnerable, and not yet comfortable with a new way of living. We are unrecognizable as our old selves, but not yet fully formed as new ones."
