on the donkey

Called to picture ourselves
seated on the donkey
but not prepared to claim
the mantle of the Christ

Maybe an ant, a flea
on the donkey
watching the people
crying to the Lord

Seeing their joy
in the presence of the Messiah
wanting him to lead
to sit upon the throne

Hosannas rising
as the branches were laid down
the King triumphant
yet soon to wear the crown
