The leaves of last autumn
bled all their colors
like rice paper maples
not yet on the ground
Illumined like lanterns
rimming the pagoda
nestled in the brush
drawing my searching eye
Lingering longer
to gather this moment
the beauty within
the arms of the bush
Holding fast
the leaves to their branches
not yet wanting
to become their mulch
