Not a taunt,
a plea, a cheering
the water much colder
but oh Dad, come in
Come in, Come in!
both girls shouted
needing to dive from the ladder
to build up my nerve
not walking in slowly
the chill rising
jumping in bodily
The shock only momentary
to squeals and shrieks of delight
bleeding off the day
spending moments precious
finding a way

Making the Whirlpool
Hands behind
little hands holding
the reins of the harness
the yoke of the draft horse
pulling them around
making the whirlpool
I hear them calling,
“Come on, Daddy;
come in the pool.”
a new meaning
known now to me;
them wanting the pack mule
