The carpet the water

Closing my eyes
hearing the power
the words of scripture
coming alive
the image of a well
deep, ever flowing
living water
here with us
the building, the church
the well, abiding
the carpet, the water
still damp from its cleaning
the words, imagery
each Sunday, coming
to the well to drink
of the living waters
here in this place
consecrated, sacred
the waters flowing
a stream forever
from the saints before us
through us, ever
to those downstream
some yet to be
