Her mother smiling

A tableau, a moment
a story of this family
her mother smiling
in the big blue Explorer
at the red light
there on the interchange
heading into the city
an opaque sippy cup,
her laugh, her swagger
banter with her mother
sitting in the summer sun
the windows open,
singing to the radio
waiting to for green light coming
oh it’s time to go
