I am he

Affirming his call
his identity
though emptied
still God, eternal
“I am he”, Christ said
the guards, the soldiers
struck, the power of this word
Christ, not just Jesus,
falling to the ground
retreating, giving way
yet he submitted to them
faithful to God’s plan
