Let these men go

Even at the moment of his capture
the first thought of the Christ
to save those entrusted to him
disciples chosen by God

Let these men go, he asked
the guards, the soldiers gathered round him
ready to fall away, but Christ faithful to his calling
only seeking safety for the eleven remaining
those who had not betrayed him
